Street style photography – the act of documenting and taking images of people’s outfits on the streets has been around for over four decades and Aleksandra Rosa is one of the lucky ones who have successful turned this art form into a full time job starting at age 16.
Aleksandra is a BA Photography student who shoots the style of the streets of her hometown Riga, Latvia. By using Instagram and Facebook, she has popularised Latvian street style and made people see it as being chic and immaculately combined instead of dull and grey – as it was formerly known.
Aleksandra’s informed eye for the latest trends has made her quite a commodity and not only for her Instagram account Style Snaper; she has also been involved in various other fashion industry events: from styling to film-sets. However Aleksandra says she feels the most comfortable behind the camera as she loves documenting how people of Riga incorporate the latest trends in their outfits. Although she clarifies that sometimes the best pictures are not the ootd’s but close-ups of details or accessories of an outfit that most people gloss over.
Style Snapper is Aleksandra’s third blog, which can be considered as three times is the charm; she has now acquired the skills and passion to feel confident enough to fully stick to it. Prior to SS, Aleksandra worked for a popular street style website where she found her feet and re-discovered her love for shooting street style.
When looking at Aleksandra’s work, it is apparent that she has a sheer talent and passion for photography and people, in nearly every shot she portrays them in active or naturalistic pose. Which she says makes the best shots because it is effortless. Her first encounter with a camera was at the age of six, when she received her first film camera and from then on she believes her curiosity and interest grew into a passion. Aleksandra now swears by the Cannon 5D MK II with the 50mm 1.4 lens which is the equipment she takes all her photographs with.
