Janis Sne is one of Latvia’s new aspiring designers. Having started with collections that were merely for exposition and that explored geometrical shapes, extraordinary cuts and imitations of armours, he now devotes all his energy to develop long-lasting menswear concepts which can already be noticed in his latest collection “Self Destruct”.
Janis admits he wound up in fashion industry quite accidentally. Graffiti was his first form of artistic expression and introduction to the world of art and design. After realising it is something he would enjoy doing, he applied to art school, and in spite of wanting to study interior design he got admitted to fashion department. Afterwards, it was a logical step to continue his fashion education with bachelor and master studies at the Art Academy of Latvia where he is currently in his 5th year.
Gone are the days when fashion for him was just about the looks and art, his current design philosophy is rooted in practicality, durability and textile and design technology. He seeks to create robust and firm designs, for inspiration taking ideologies coming from street culture, graffiti, snowboard, military and rock music. His designs embody a strong, ambitious and rebellious spirit that exists to encourage people to take their stand and fight for what they want, as the most obvious example being himself who is proudly sporting self-designed clothes every day.
Even though his designs are not currently commercially available, Janis admitted that there’s a new brand underway, on which he and a team of other visionaries are thoughtfully working on that might see the sunlight by the end of 2015. We are eager to see what the future brings to this bright and ambitious Latvian designer and we encourage keeping up with his creative endeavors by following his Facebook page Janis Sne.
