Until not too long ago, this French couture designer’s razor-sharp tailoring was one of the best-kept secrets of French fashion. Now she has secured a place in couture’s history books.
Bouchra Jarrar was born in Cannes and mastered her sewing skills aged twelve by watching and copying her mother. When she saw Yves Saint Laurent runway show on television as a teenager, she realised that designing clothes for living is a great opportunity.
After graduating at the Duperré School of Applied Arts in Paris, she started to designed jewellery for Jean Paul Gaultier, then worked for Balenciaga, Christian Lacroix and also launched her own label during Paris haute couture week in July 2010.
She is known for being virtuous, attentive and wants to add some kind of masculine touch to her collections, making clothes for women who would like to look feminine and smart at the same time. Bouchra loves asymmetry which can be mixed very well with her clean lines. Pieces from this season are a mix of classic redingotes with biker jackets and vests with diagonal zippers. Her collections are elegant, young and real just like herself. They include sleeveless jackets, scarf tops, aviator jackets, perfectly tailored cigarette pants.
Bouchra’s mission is to assist young women in building a sense of chic into their daily wardrobe. Every woman who likes elegant, unique clothes should have a few pieces from her collection in her wardrobe.
